Flying cars have been a staple of science fiction for over a century, but current reality still falls woefully short of those 20th century predictions. Still, there are promising signs for your aerial taxi. Take, for instance, recent footage of a prototype from a start-up called Kitty Hawk. The Kitty Hawk Flyer is a new, all-electric ultralight personal aircraft that requires no pilot’s license to fly.

Video footage shows the prototype easily hovering over water, which corresponds with Kitty’s Hawk caveat that the Flyer is for “uncongested” areas. Sales of the Kitty Hawk begin at the end of 2017 and the price tag is expected to extend into the tens-of-thousands of dollars.

If you would like to speed up the delivery of flying cars, consider a mechanical engineering degree to enhance your technical knowledge.
