Imagine learning a language in the time it takes to complete a download.

That’s the vision of the U.S. government’s DARPA researchers, who are exploring the limits of targeted neuroplasticity training (TNT). TNT works by stimulating the brain to activate synaptic plasticity, or the state where the brain best absorbs new information. By conditioning the brain to become more receptive to incoming information, we could “download” anything we want to know.

“DARPA’s goal with TNT is to further enhance the most effective existing training methods so the men and women of our Armed Forces can operate at their full potential,” DARPA said in a press release.
